WHAT IS A "REVUE"?

The Austin Blues Revue is presented in the classic style of a Revue. A Revue is a special performance of a set of music that is tied together thematically and presented in high style. Dating back to the turn of the 19th century, Revues are known to be lighthearted, boisterous, scandalous and fun affairs.

Revues became particularly popular between 1920 and 1950 and were presented in grand theaters with bands that brought together musicians from different acts to perform for upscale audiences across America. These special shows were elaborately staged and designed to be a special event.
